چکیده

Isothermal titration calorimetry has been applied in combination with a moisture generator and, independently, gravimetry to study the adsorption of water onto 50 mg of the lipid dioleoylphosphatidylcholine. During the experiment, the relative humidity is varied stepwise, e.g. from 2% to 92% in increments of 2% every 15 min. The difference between the partial molar enthalpy of the water molecules which interact directly with the lipid headgroups and the molar enthalpy of Ž . bulk water is endothermic 10–15 kJrmol . We conclude that the hydration of lipids with phosphatidylcholine headgroups is entropy-driven at room temperature. q 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Hydration and Lyotropic Melting of Amphiphilic Molecules: A Thermodynamic Study Using Humidity Titration Calorimetry.

The hydration of the lipid 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoylphosphatidylcholine (POPC) and of the cationic detergent dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) has been studied by means of isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), gravimetry, and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. During the experiments films of the amphiphiles are perfused by an inert gas of variable relative humidity. The measurement of adsorption he...

Isothermal Titration Calorimetry and Molecular Dynamics Simulation Studies on the Binding of Indometacin with Human Serum Albumin

Human serum albumin (HSA) is the most abundant protein in the blood plasma. Drug binding to HSA is crucial to study the absorption, distribution, metabolism, efficiency and bioavailability of drug molecules. In this study, isothermal titration calorimetry and molecular dynamics simulation of HSA and its complex with indometacin (IM) were performed to investigate thermodynamics parameters and th...

The Complexity of Hydration of Phloroglucinol: A Comprehensive Structural and Thermodynamic Characterization

Hydrate formation is of great importance as the inclusion of water molecules affects many solid state properties and hence determines the required chemical processing, handling, and storage. Phloroglucinol is industrially important, and the observed differences in the morphology and diffuse scattering effects with growth conditions have been scientifically controversial. We have studied the anh...
